Bravo Upgraded Prop Shaft
Overview
:
Over
the past few years PROTECHNOLOGIES has developed a way to reduce
propeller slip that thereby increases hull speed by feeding
Bravo drives a dose of Viagra. That’s right,
PROROC makes a pill that gives Bravo drives a longer, stiffer
shaft. The engorged prop shaft grows to the same diameter as
found in the Mercury #VI drive.
A normal Bravo with an HP shaft can only handle
propellers that have a smaller overall diameter. This usually
limits the selection of propellers to round ear diffuser ringed
props. Once the Bravo is injected with Viagra, it grows a
bigger shaft, capable of handling propellers designed for the
Mercury #6 drive, allowing for a much larger selection in
diameter, pitch, and style. The Big Shaft increases drive
endurance
and also reduces upper gear case
failures, by significantly reducing the vibration of propeller
slip. The Big Shaft radically enhances and increases overall
life and durability.
Rolf Papke, of ProTechnologies, designed The Big
Shaft and the required internal carrier (see photos). The kit to
upgrade one drive is $2495 and if you send him the drive, he’ll
do the install for another $250. It appears to be a relatively
simple installation after the drive is taken off the boat.
